Not All Dementia Is Called Alzheimer’s
Vascular cognitive impairment impedes ability to organize thoughts, but it is preventable
(HealthDay News) — A common form of dementia often mistaken for Alzheimer’s can be prevented with good health habits, a new report says.
Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI), the second most common cause of dementia, occurs in up to 4 percent of Americans over age 65 and up to 20 percent of those with some form of dementia. Brain damage from multiple small strokes, which can occur from narrowing or blocked arteries in the brain, are often the cause of VCI.

An Eye Opening Testimony
At seventy four, Evva from Arizona has had to deal with glaucoma and cataracts for some time. In June of last year, Evva’s optometrist informed her that the pressure in her eyes had gotten so bad it was time to schedule surgery. If she didn’t schedule an appointment soon, he warned, she would loose her eyesight.
Glaucoma is an eye disease that affects the optic nerve. If left long enough, the condition can cause vision loss, and even blindness. The National Glaucoma Research Program predicts that in eleven years, 3.3 million people could suffer from the disease. Despite its prevalence, prevention methods for glaucoma are still unknown.
